Letter to Walter Rothschild, just received permission for Tunney, now in Marble Bar, to join a Geological Survey under Mr Brockman and Gibb Maitland to an unknown district seeking pastoral country and mineral resources ; they have 10 men and 70 horses, the men will get a bonus of 50% extra pay because of the dangers of the tropics, dangerous natives and malaria. It saves Tunney going alone as he would need 3 men. Hope the entomological outfit will arrive soon.

[To Rothschild] re: Alligator River, suggestions to buy a 20 ton schooner and resell it later for the same cost of hire and Tunney could collect on the islands too. 30 pounds p.m. for a sailing master, 5 pounds for 1 white man and 1 pound for 2 colonials + 10 pounds for stores & food. Capt. Hilliard has good reputation and local experience, Oct. best month. I am sending cases of specimens on R.M.S. Britannia and photographs Tunney made ; please identify and return duplicates.

To Rothschild, apologies for bad condition of bird specimens sent analogous to the arrival of the Tennant collection of fossils from the British Museum arriving in Perth in a terrible state.  Hoping Tunney can go to Alligator R., have written to N.T. to gain Tunney every facility

To Edward Masters, Tring Museum, I have written to Tunney to clean birds better, No point going to Alligator R. until the rains are over. Sending some specimens from Tunney, marsupials and a few bird on P&O Oceana on 24th. I think that many new species have been made. Dr Bowdler Sharpe authority for Petraeus campbelli, Gould for ... Calyptorhynchus (Black cockatoo). B.M. does not describe it well. Sending case of specimens parcel post, list enclosed.
