the result of the crushing of 130 tons of stone in 13 full days working,
and giving a yield of 1 oz. 1 dwt. 6 grs. per ton.  The gold has been
lodged with the Commercial Bank, where it can be seen by any other
shareholders.

THE MINING MANAGER'S REPORT.

The following report, dated 15th inst., was received, yesterday, from Mr
Wm. Oats, mining manager of Fraser's Gold Mining Company: — During the
past fortnight have made fair progress in underground workings.  Shall
soon have a good reserve of stone to break, from which I shall increase as
fast as possible.  The battery has worked fairly well, with a good supply
of water.  On Sunday I had the boiler cleaned, finding it in a perfect
condition, starting to work again at noon on Monday.  The train rails
have, to-day, arrived on the mine; shall now speedily fix them.  This will
relieve the horse work and facilitate the bringing of ore to the battery.
A good quantity of water is in the dam, sufficient for some time for
feeding boiler, as a considerable quantity of it is condensed back.

THE CENTRAL G.M. COMPANY.

The following report, dated Southern Cross, July 16th, has been handed to
us by Mr W. E. Clifton, the legal manager of the above company: — Yours of
the 9th. inst. duly to hand.  Have now to report having finished clearing
up, and the battery started again on Monday morning, the 14th inst.
Crushed a little over 200 tons, yield about 120 ozs. Would have had more
tons put through, were it not that the pinion wheel still gives trouble.
I don't care how soon the web wheels arrive.  I hope then to get over the
difficulty.  I expect to be able to send down a better average per ton
next cleaning up.  I attached an additional plate, known as a drop plate,
to each table.  I find they are a great improvement in saving gold.  I
have seen them in use many years ago.  For the fort-night ending the 13th
July, drove bottom level 15 ft., total 55 ft.; lode over 12 ft. wide,
showing gold.  North level driven 5 ft, total 16 ft; face 10 ft. wide,
showing gold.  Intermediate level driven 13 ft., total 64 ft.; lode
formation 8 ft., intermixed.  This level I have stopped for the present;
put the men I had in it to break quartz from an outcrop.  I got payable
gold in about 60 yards from the north boundary of the lease.  I intend
giving it a trial in this crushing.  — HENRY RYAN.
