NEWS FROM YILGARN.
A York correspondent telegraphed under yesterday's date:-
The Carrying Company's Coach arrived last night. No rain has fallen on
the fields, and there has been none beyond Yorkrakine, forty-five miles
from Southern Cross. Several parties have started condensing, and will
have enough for a few people.
Alluvial is still found at Parker's range, and one nugget weighing 17 ozs.
has been found.
[This is probably the same target as that referred to by our correspondent
in our yesterday's issue, as weighing 20 ozs.- ED].
Fraser's boiler has stopped again, owing to the plates warping. The coach
met 17 teams going out by the York road. It came in in five days.
FRASER'S G.M. COMPANY.
The following report has been received By the Directors of Fraser's G.M.
Company, from Mr E. L. Rosman, the mining manager: During the past
fortnight the following work has been done in your mine. Fraser Shaft:-
Have Driven the North 60 ft. level, 15 ft. from the cross-cut, and
timbered, the same also driven the South level 8 ft. and timbered it.
Those levels are taken 7 ft. wide, to admit sets of timber 5 ft. in the
clear. We are only taking a portion of the lode at present. The end is
full of spur, carrying a good deal of fine gold.
After the boiler was replaced, we resumed crushing on Wednesday morning,
and continued doing so for 72 hours, then blew the boiler off, and cleaned
it out. Although the boiler was blown off every hour and a half, there
was a thick incrustation over the shell and tube, which took us until
Tuesday evening to clear out, refill, and get steam up again, and resume
crushing. We continued crushing until Thursday morning at 7 o'clock, when
we were compelled to stop, pull the fire out, and blow out the boiler,
otherwise, there would have been another accident, and this with only 35
hours working and blowing off every hour. We were actually crushing about
100 hours and put through about 34 tons of stuff, yielding 14 pounds
avoirdupois of amalgam, a portion of which I will endeavour to treat here
with the limited means at my command, and the remainder forward down to
you for treatment, at the same time that I send down the cake that I have
treated. I would state that the principal part of the stuff crushed this
time is from the bottom or 60 ft. level in Fraser's shaft.
There being no water, I am now erecting a condenser to supply the men and
horses.

SPRING VALLEY T.M. COMPANY.
The mining manager of the above Company's reports:-"We are now washing
every day, and can continue all the summer. Everything is working
satisfactorily, and I am averaging 2 cwt. per day."
CENTRAL G.M. COMPANY.
The following report has been received by Mr W. E. Clifton, the legal
manager, of the above Company, under date, Southern Cross, February 11th:-
I have been enlarging and puddling a portion of No. 1 dam, which I hope to
finish this week; also put shoots in and timbered the tunnel connected
with this dam. I have a few hands on excavating more ground in No. 2 dam.
I will have the tailings, shoots and pits ready in two or three days, and
I hope to make a start on the 14th inst. with 5 heads. The boiler is
nearly two thirds full of fresh water.
