CENTRAL G.M. COMPANY.

Mr W. E. Clifton, legal manager of the above company, has handed us the
following report, dated Southern Cross, 17 June: —

I have to report for the fortnight ending 14th June.  Crushed for nine
days, 130 tons, yielding 92oz. 16dwts.  The battery has been idle since
Saturday night.  I expect to be able to start it to-morrow night.  The
stoppage is owing to altering the quartz tram and raising the battery tip,
improvements I have had in view for some time.  I hope to have it finished
to-morrow.  I reckon to save one man's labour by it.  The quartz crushed
has been taken from the bottom level, the intermediate and open cutting.
The bottom, or No. 1 level, driven 10 feet for the fortnight, total 26
feet south of the shaft.  Lode in the face over 11 feet wide, and showing
gold.  The intermediate level driven 11 feet, total 36 feet south of shaft
lode, about 9 feet wide, showing gold.
(Signed) HENRY RYAN.
Mine Manager.

FRASER'S G.M. COMPANY.

The following report has been received from Mr. Wm. Oates, mining manager
of the above company: — During the fortnight I have had charge of the
mine, we have been continuing and have finished some of the work mentioned
in my last report.

The men finished repairing the boiler yesterday.  Have let the fire to dry
the engine, making ready to start, before which must fix condensing pipes;
this will take another three or four days.  I hope to set the battery
going not later than Monday next.  I put three men a week since in
Fraser's shaft to make flat and secure ground; show commenced hauling
stone there to-morrow.  I have employed a mason for a few days to erect a
retort and smelting furnace.  We had a little rain a week since and added
two inches of water to the dam.  I am pushing on with energy, and am
confident of making a successful start.  Mr Fraser arrived yesterday.  I
shall bring all my plans under his notice.
