Abstract:
Mr. Tom Roberts’s Picture.—Mr. Tom Roberts’s famous picture of the opening
by His Royal Highness the Duke of York of the first Commonwealth
Parliament was, by the graciousness of His Majesty King Edward VII.,
placed on exhibition at the Museum yesterday. The enormous canvas,

measuring 18ft. by 11ft., was set up in the Mammalian gallery, in the best
available light, and, during the day, was inspected by over 1,000 persons.
Owing to the excellent copies that have preceded the original in Western
Australia, the picture, like the abilities of the artist, is so well known
as to obviate any necessity for detailed description or comment. At the
same time it should be said that many of the numerous portraits of public
men of Australia are striking in their fidelity. The picture will remain
on public view for a fortnight, after which it will be despatched its
Royal owner.
