Letter from James Francis Murphy, Secretary, Department of Commerce, Canberra, to Battye requesting a replacement dried Emu skin for the Commercial and Industrial Museum, Montreal, Canada.
The original Emu skin, together with other skins of birds and animals, had been lost while being shipped to Canada on the "Canadian Planter."
The ship ran aground off the American coast and the Emu skin was lost.
Dr. Henry Laureys, the Curator of the Museum, has asked the Australian Trade Commissioner in Canada if another skin could be sent free of charge.
