Text: "The Directors of the Museums of Australia, as well as the Secretariat of the Australian Unesco Committee for Museums, feel keen regret that you are retiring from the field which you have occupied so long and so ably. Your achievements, despite
difficulties, have been many, and with your remarkable services in the Natural Sciences in Australia you rank as "The Grand Old Man" of our Museums. Your presence at Unesco meetings, as well as your ready co-operation in all matters there discussed, will be missed very much. Your personal, and useful, contacts with Museum Directors and Staffs have always been appreciated; happy memories of these associations will remain with all those who enjoy your friendship.
While congratulating you on your past achievements it is the sincere wish of all your colleagues that you may enjoy many happy years of retirement; we have no doubt at all that you will continue your interest in the Natural Sciences, and in the work of museums, and particularly the Western Australian Museum, where you have laboured so enthusiastically and conscientiously for nearly half a century. We are happy to know that the Trustees of the Western Australian Museum are setting aside a room for you and that you will continue to enjoy the facilities which the Museum of your State has to offer."
