This is the almost unknown story of a major political/industrial dispute in the 1960s, which had national and international implications, and coincided with the emergence of the giant iron ore industry in the Pilbara region of Western
Australia. Almost unknown, because at the time it was an extremely sensitive issue, with a recent implacable wartime enemy and now emerging major trading partner and the parties principally involved preferred to let the matter sink into obscurity.
