A compilation of intimate Noongar songs from families in Mandurah, in the South West of Western Australia. The 7 songs were written at Nidjalla Waangan Mia in Mandurah and recorded at the John Butler Studio at Fairbridge.

These songs were further developed with additional musical production by Charmaine Councillor and Phil Bartlett. Written and performed in Noongar by each participant, the songs are a celebration of the spirit of the land, ocean and love.

On Monday 7th October and Tuesday 8th October 2019, CAN in partnership with AWESOME presented the Djinda Djinda Community Choir. Lead by musicians Charmaine Councillor, Phyllis Bennell and Phil Bartlett the Djinda Djinda Community

Choir performed beautiful Noongar lullabies in the Wetlands Stage at the Perth Cultural Centre. This special community event was held to celebrate the International Year of Indigenous Languages as part of the CAN Lullabies program.

'Documentary of the first twelve months of the Strong Culture, Strong Community program depicting how the projects gave a voice and responded to the needs of the Southern Wheatbelt communities throught the arts. The objective

of the program was to improve wellbeing and resilience within Aboriginal communities through participation in culture and the arts. The specific objective of involving Narrogin Senior High School students in the program was to find ways of engaging young Noongar people to learn to connect with their language and culture, and to re-engage Noongar students with high school.

In 2009, oral historian Mary Anne Jebb and radio producer, Bill Bunbury assisted Noongar people of the Central Eastern Wheatbelt to record and share their life stories. The resulting three programs provide a moving insight

into lives and experiences of Noongar people from this region. These are people recalling their life experiences, families and history. Episode 1 covers childhood, education and the stolen generation. Episode 2 covers working life, sport, making do and living conditions. Episode 3 covers beliefs, bush food and medicines.

CAN WA set out to inspire a group of teenagers from the Wheatbelt to learn their traditional Noongar language. The project brought together a team of talented Aboriginal performing artists who used contemporary music and media as

the vehicle to teach teenagers one of the oldest living languages on the planet. Watch, listen and enjoy as these young people not only learn their language, but celebrate it through song. Martu filmmaker documented the process and taught the students how to film their video clips.
