THE CENTRAL G.M. COMPANY
REPORT ON WATER FROM THE COMPANY'S CLAIM.
It having been rumoured some time since that the well water on the Central
G. M. Company's claim was likely to prove unsuitable for crushing
purposes, the Directors, in order to set all doubts on the matter at rest,
determined to have some of the water analysed. Samples were accordingly
procured and forwarded to Dr. Tratman, who has since furnished the
following report.
"The water is free from all organic impurity, and is soft its hardness
being only 2.1 degrees of the common scale which is equal to 2.1 grains of
carbonate of lime per gallon. Its characteristic is the large amount of
salt it contains, this being 7528.5 grains per gallon, or considerably
more than one pound weight of salt to every gallon of water.
"The specific gravity is 1065 (pure water is 1000), a sufficient density
to float off fine particles of gold. Chemically, there is no reason why
this water should not be suitable for amalgamation and the working of the
machine, but practically believe a difficulty would be found, as should
any part of the track of the water become at any time dry it would be
clogged with salt, which would only be got rid of by a stream of fresh
water.
"As regards its use in an engine boiler, I am not competent to say; but as
very little of the solids would be precipitated by boiling, I see no
reason why it is should not be suitable.
"(Signed) FRANK TRATMAN.
