The Nieuw Land heritage centre presents the rich history of the area we now call Flevoland. This book includes stories about the migrants of Flevoland and how they have shaped society such as the first Moroccans who settled there;
or the story of the Zuiderzee fishermen, for whom a major disaster threatened the closure of their bay. It also includes an exhibition article on the wreck of the Batavia: "Schipbreuk in Lelystad : de nieuwe ondergang van de oude Batavia" by Andre Geurts.
This acclaimed exhibition deals with the fateful voyage of the VOC ship Batavia. It stands as a sign of the closer cooperation between the Batavia yard where the Batavia replica is berthed and where visitors can wander through the
workshops of artisans and on the decks; the Ship Archaeology section of the Cultural Heritage Department and Nieuw Land heritage centre where archaeological finds from the Batavia and historical documents are shown. It includes resources for children.
