This is a rare attempt to integrate oral history with historical photographs to create a detailed and vivid account of everyday life in the country town of Charters Towers. The oral history material has been selected with a special
eye to the experience of women and children. Consequently, life is recorded in the home and school, in leisure time and recreation, rather than in the workplace.
