THE ART GALLERY.
To the Editor.
Sir,—As there seems some misunderstanding over some circumstances
connected with the opening of the new Art Gallery, I think it right to
state (a) that for the purposes of the opening ceremony the committee
readily and unanimously agreed to hand over the building to the president
for that evening in accordance with a practice usual in other museums, and
repeatedly followed by the British Museum ; and (b) that every penny of
the expenses incurred in connection with the function came out of the
pocket of Dr. Hackett.
—Yours, etc.,
BERNARD H. WOODWARD,
Director W.A. Museum and Art Gallery.
Museum, Perth June 29.
