Abstract:
Museum and Art Gallery Guide.—The committee of the Museum and Art Gallery
have issued a guide to those institutions, written by the curator and
secretary, Mr. Bernard H. Woodward. As explained by its author in the
preface, the Guide is neither a text-book of science or art, nor is it a

catalogue, but it is “an attempt to answer the questions frequently put by
visitors, and it will, he trusts, induce them to study some of the works,
of which a list is appended so that they main gain fuller knowledge of the
subjects mentioned.” Mr. Woodward has carried out his task admirably. He
first gives a brief history of the Museum and Art Gallery. The general
arrangement of the Museum is next described, and then follows explanatory
chapters on the contents of the two collections. The book should
materially assist visitors to an intelligent appreciation of all that the
Museum and Art Gallery have to show.
