WYNDHAM COAL. REPORT OF THE GOVERNMENT GEOLOGIST.
Mr B. H. Woodward, F.G.S., Government Geologist, has made the following report, dated Perth, 17th inst., on the sample of coal brought down from Wyndham by His Excellency the Administrator after His Recent Visit to the northern parts of the colony:
COMPOSITION PER CENT.
Volatile matter, 25.28.
Water 2.65
Gases &c. 22.63
Coke 74.72.
Fixed Carbon 59.10
Ash (pale yellow-grey) 15.62 100.00
Sulphur 1.01 Percent.
This coal does not cake, the coke being in powder. The amount of ash is large, which may be due in part to extraneous earthy matter, as this specimen was a small one from the surface of the seam.
