Archaeological excavations at Puritjarra rock shelter from 1986 to 1990 provided the first detailed record of late Pleistocene occupation in Central Australia. Complementary studies of stone artefact (lithic) assemblages, 14C, TL and OSL chronology; environmental
evidence (charcoals and phytoliths); sedimentary history; grindstones and plant use; rock art; ochres; and Aboriginal history have made this one of the best documented archaeological sites in the Australian desert. Puritjarra not only preserves one of the longest records of human occupation in arid Australia, it also contains an important record of changing environments extending back to the last interglacial approximately 100,000 years ago.This archival CD brings together all the key published works relating to Puritjarra, together with much unpublished data, including artefact databases, field plans, stratigraphic diagrams, and original field notes.
