During an event called Fleet Week in Albany, the United States Navy Great White Fleet visited Albany from the 11-18 September, 1908. The Great White Fleet was the popular nickname for the U.S. battle fleet that completed a circumnavigation of the globe
from 16 December 1907 to 22 February 1909. This is a series of photographs documenting the event in Albany - the ships, the street parade and the banquet (with background music).The cruise undertaken by those 16 naval vessels so long ago was, and still is, the largest circumnavigation of the globe by sea.
