"As a young man Shillington wrote of his travel experiences for the NSW Wellington Gazette. Early in the 1900s he wrote a series of reminiscences and short stories for the Kalgoorlie Sun and the Sunday Times under the pseudonym of 'Bardie'. He also wrote
a learned article on the Shakespeare controversy for a Kalgoorlie paper. Later he was a well known writer to The West Australian under 'EES' and his own name." -- p. v. Many of E.E. Shillington's articles are about life on the goldfields in Western Australia and observations on working life in Western Australia.
