The Western Australian Museum Library is one of the oldest government Libraries in the state, with book acquisitions dating back to the late nineteenth century. It contains over 79,000 records which include over 800 rare books. Journals exchanged for the Record of the Western Australian Museum and the Museum Archive are part of the collections.

The library collections subject coverage includes; zoology, specializing in ornithology, malacology and marine invertebrates; earth sciences with specialization, palaeontology; Australian history, anthropology and archaeology; maritime archaeology; materials conservation and museology.

The Library collections support the object collections and research of the Museum, and are a vital research tool for Museum staff. The collections are also a valuable source of specialized information for both Australian and international researchers.

The collections of the Royal Society of Western Australia have been hosted by the Museum Library since 1960.
